Missing Pieces: Sport Psychology Consulting for Bettering Athletic Performance℠
So many lives are touched by anxiety and other challenges - many are children and adolescents. I believe that often this population is overlooked not only in the general population but in athletes as well. So much of their performance is under pressure, whether by the team, coaches, parents or even themselves.
Missing Pieces educates and empowers the athlete to better athletic performance by discovering mental blocks and habitual responses, learn healthy coping skills so the athlete enjoy playing the game, and enrich her life rather than having her suffer through discomfort, nervousness, stress, fear, and anxiety. It is a forum for their voices, concerns, and triumphs. This method can take place individually, as a team, with coaches, and with parents. The program length is dependent upon the needs of the individual, team, coaches, and/or parents.
Philosophy & Experience
My many years of playing and coaching, my parenting experiences and my studies for a doctorate in psychology allowed me to use my knowledge to develop a program to help others who have such challenges. I remember the disdain on my coaches’ faces when someone did not perform. I remember them yelling and taking out their frustration on the team and others. I remember the feelings of being a player so I did my best to recognize the signs of distress in my players and was mindful not to yell or scream or berate my players. I was also able to recognize the performance challenges in their bodies, their faces, and their actions. It is something that is hard to forget and that had me want to ease what they were going through.
What the player would go through came out differently for each. Some players would grow quiet and recede into themselves. Some would have outbursts at their teammates and their performances. Some would cry. Some would give up. Some would think too much. Some would grow physically tight. Some would get physically sick before and during games. Some would grow angry. Some would perform better.

Michaelene Ruhl, PsyD Constellation Healing Arts | The Tree of Life Holistic Center | 333317 Grand River Ave. | Farmington, MI 48336 (248) 345-3557 I’ve probably been in therapy 15 years of my life, you know what I mean, and never got the healing that I could get in a family constellation. I mean totally beyond my imagination. I’m still in awe of the process.” ~ Jack
